Firefighters in Portalegre face severe financial pressure caused by rising fuel prices. The situation has become particularly complicated for the corporations in the region, which see their operational costs soar without corresponding adjustments in public support.
The president of the firefighters' association, António Mota Lourenço, revealed that the state subsidy amounts for emergency services remain unchanged. These subsidies cover essential areas such as fires and pre-hospital emergency services, remaining at the same values despite cost inflation.
The maintenance of state subsidies alongside the continuous rise in operational costs creates a significant financial imbalance for firefighters. This discrepancy puts at risk the ability of corporations to ensure the normal functioning of emergency services in the Portalegre region.
