The state Civil Defense has sheltered 148 homeless families in 17 emergency shelters in urban areas of the region, which concentrates the largest number of remaining quilombola communities in the state. With road blocks and flooding points, communities such as Ivaporunduva and André Lopes are isolated, with water and electricity supply affected. On Monday (14), Civil Defense stated it is seeking access by land and air, setting up an operation with vessels to deliver food. The floods were caused by the overflow of the Ribeira do Iguape River, which rose 11 meters above normal.
