FlixBus left Peniche bus terminal and started operating on the street, accusing Oeste Rodoviaria of creating obstacles to the use of the facilities. The German transport company claims it faces barriers from the bus company in the Centro region.
Oeste Rodoviaria, which belongs to the same group as Rede de Expressos, responded to the accusations justifying the decision with security issues. The company states that the lack of security was the reason for not allowing FlixBus to continue using its facilities in Peniche.
The conflict arises in a context of competition between road transport operators in the Centro region. FlixBus, a German-origin company, has been expanding its services in Portugal and has encountered resistance from established local operators.
The situation in Peniche exemplifies the tensions between international transport companies and traditional operators in Portugal. While FlixBus seeks to establish itself in the Portuguese market, companies like Oeste Rodoviaria defend their position in the national road transport sector.
