Two off-duty military police officers were killed in Rio de Janeiro in less than 48 hours. The first case occurred on Sunday dawn in Senador Camará, in the West Zone, when Corporal José Luiz Porto Junior, 42 years old, assigned to the 14th BPM of Bangu, was shot. A man identified as the shooter was arrested hours later.
The second assassination occurred yesterday afternoon, near a shopping mall in the center of São Gonçalo, in the Metropolitan Region. The victim was Corporal Rayllan Machado Carino, who worked at the 1st BPM of São Gonçalo. After being shot, he was rescued by colleagues from his own unit and taken to the Central Emergency Room in the Zé Garoto neighborhood, but did not survive his injuries. The perpetrators managed to flee.
The Military Police Command regretted the death of the officer and the occurrence was registered at the Homicide Police Station of Niterói and São Gonçalo, responsible for investigating the circumstances of the crime.
With these two episodes, the number of military police officers killed in violent situations since January rises to 32.
