"There is no other". School directors consider the solution to place students in Lisbon "great"

RTP Notícias15 September 2026 at 11:20

The president of the Association of School Directors considered the solution of administrative placement of 600 students in Lisbon schools as "great", "plausible" and a "good strategy". This approach was presented as a way to resolve placement problems for students in the capital.

However, the official admitted that there will be classes with too many students in Lisbon schools as a result of this measure. The situation reflects the existing pressure on the Ministry of Education and on the school directors themselves to find a solution to the problem.

The president of the association was clear in stating that "there is no other solution in this case", acknowledging the difficulty in finding viable alternatives for the placement of these students. The interview was given to RTP, where the official detailed his position on the situation.

Why this matters

Parents and students in Lisbon directly face the lack of school places, and this solution may result in overcrowded classes. School directors are forced to accept more students, while the Ministry of Education tries to manage a capacity crisis in the capital's school system. This decision follows the accumulated pressure on both parties to find a resolution for unplaced students.

Public Ministry investigates PJ director for false statements and abuse of power

The Public Prosecutor opened an inquiry into the national director of the Judicial Police, Carlos Cabreiro, and other officials, for alleged crimes of false statements and abuse of power related to the Football Leaks case. The investigation comes following a complaint filed by lawyer Aníbal Pinto, convicted in the Rui Pinto case, who claims that Cabreiro made false statements in court by denying the existence of environmental wiretaps authorized by him in 2015, when PJ documentation proved that the recordings were actually made. The complaint states that illegal evidence may have been validated in court based on false testimonies, potentially involving crimes of denial of justice, perjury and abuse of power.
