AFM denies intention to take over management of the Sports Centre

dnoticias.pt14 September 2026 at 20:56

The Madeira Football Association (AFM) has come forward to deny any intention to take over the management of the Madeira Sports Centre, in Ribeira Brava. The reaction came after RTP Madeira reported that the AFM was interested in managing that sports complex.

In a statement issued today, the AFM "categorically" states that it has not formalised any request, proposal or expression of interest with the Society for the Promotion and Development of the West Zone of Madeira, S.A., the entity responsible for managing that sports facility.

The association states that the information disseminated by RTP Madeira did not correspond to the truth, thus requiring a public clarification to correct the version of events that had been presented.

Why this matters

The AFM's clarification is relevant for Madeiran athletes and clubs that use or wish to use the Sports Centre in Ribeira Brava, as it rules out the possibility of a change in the management of that sports facility. Misinformation could have generated unnecessary expectations or concerns in the local community about the future of that complex.
