Rosatom, the Russian state nuclear energy corporation, met with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to discuss security issues related to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
The main topic of the meeting was the protection of nuclear facilities against possible military threats. The region around the plant has been the scene of conflict since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
The Zaporizhzhia plant, located in southern Ukraine, came under Russian control during the first months of the war and continues operating under dangerous circumstances, with constant concerns about the safety of the reactors.
The IAEA has been closely monitoring the situation at the plant and has advocated for a security zone around the facilities to prevent a possible nuclear disaster in the region.
