Bruma leaves Benfica and signs with Greeks from Aris Thessaloniki

Diário de Viseu15 September 2026 at 10:00

The Portuguese international footballer Bruma left Benfica and signed a contract with Aris Thessaloniki, of Greece. This transfer marks the player's return to Greek football after his stint at Benfica.

Bruma represented Benfica since January 2025, having accumulated only a few months at the Portuguese club before transferring to the Greek team.

The player already has experience in Greece, having played for Olympiacos during the 2020/21 season. This will be his second experience in Hellenic football.

With this change, Bruma seeks to relaunch his career in a league he already knows, after a short period in Portugal.

Why this matters

Portuguese readers closely follow the careers of their internationals, and Bruma represents one of Portugal's attacking options. His transfer to Greece marks the end of a short stint at Benfica, where he had little playing time, and offers the player a new chance to regain his starting spot in a league he already knows. This movement fits the pattern of Portuguese players who seek abroad opportunities that they cannot find at the major domestic clubs.

Benfica regular starter in doubt for Milan clash

Alexander Bah remains in doubt for the match between Benfica and Milan in the first matchday of the league phase of the Europa League. The Danish right-back is practically recovered from the injury that kept him out of the Eagles' last two matches, but his presence at San Siro is still not guaranteed. If he does not travel to Italy, Daniel Banjaqui will be the main alternative for the right side of the defense. The situation should be clarified in Marco Silva's preview scheduled for Tuesday. At 28 years old, Bah has nine appearances this season for Benfica with three assists.
