The Government of the Azores criticized today the "irresponsibility" of the Republic for the delay in the transfer of agricultural support to the region. This situation forced the Azores to intervene with a great financial effort to ensure the POSEI program without pro-rata cuts.
The criticism was voiced during the plenary session of the Regional Assembly, held in Horta, on the island of Faial. The matter was raised by the Regional Secretary of Agriculture and Food, who pointed the finger at the Republic for the slowness in sending the funds.
The official recalled that the Azores' Budget had to be mobilized to fill this gap, highlighting the additional effort the region had to make to protect its farmers.
POSEI is a specific agricultural support program for Portugal's autonomous regions, and delays in the transfer of funds by the central government put at risk the timely payment of these supports to Azorean producers.
