The Aveiro City Council announced the beginning of the rehabilitation of two important roads in the East zone of Aveiro Train Station, in an area that has seen significant urban and residential growth. The interventions aim to improve circulation conditions and road and pedestrian safety, responding to the degradation of some streets that has been conditioning traffic.
Avenida D. António Francisco dos Santos, between the East zone of the Station and Esgueira, is already being worked on in the section between the roundabout with Avenida Vasco Branco and Rua Mariano Ludgero, with an investment close to 320 thousand euros. This section has been closed to traffic due to the poor condition of the road. The works include the reinforcement of the road pavement structure, the creation of a two-way cycle path and the construction of a sidewalk, also improving the pedestrian connection to the railway line crossing area.
In the coming days, the rehabilitation of Avenida Vasco Branco should also begin, between Rua Artur de Almeida Eça and the roundabout with Avenida D. António Francisco dos Santos, in a project of 280 thousand euros. This intervention aims to benefit the connection between the Train Station and the rest of the road network, including access to the Aveiro Bus Terminal, and includes pavement reinforcement, selective correction of stormwater drainage problems and the restoration of horizontal signage.
The works on both roads will imply traffic restrictions during the construction period.
