UNITA's president, Adalberto Costa Júnior, today accused the Angolan regime, led by the MPLA for 50 years, of using the ongoing electoral registration update to benefit the MPLA itself in the elections scheduled for 2027. This accusation comes in a context of continuous criticism of the way the electoral process is being conducted in the country.
Adalberto Costa Júnior spoke to the press in Luanda after completing his proof of life for the update of his data within the electoral registration. This visit to the registration office was used by the UNITA leader as an opportunity to publicly demonstrate his position on the process.
The leader of UNITA, the largest opposition party in Angola, referred to the MPLA as a "regime party," suggesting that it uses state mechanisms for its own benefit. UNITA remains the main opposition force in a political system that, according to the party's perspective, does not fully comply with the principles of the rule of law.
