Ruy de Carvalho, a 99-year-old actor, was honored by the Lisbon City Council with the Medal of Honor of the city. The distinction recognizes his contribution to Portuguese arts and culture throughout a career spanning several decades.
The proposal for the award was approved last June during a city council meeting. The Lisbon municipality decided to pay tribute to one of the most emblematic figures of Portuguese theater and cinema.
In the justification of the proposal, the Lisbon City Hall highlighted the "exceptional artistic career" of Ruy de Carvalho. The actor is widely recognized for his work in both theater and cinema, having accumulated over the years an extensive body of work that includes numerous plays and films.
