The City of Rio launched this Tuesday the Integrated Municipal Policy for Early Childhood (PMIPIC), which aims to place children up to 6 years old at the center of decisions across different areas of the municipal administration. The decree creates a new governance structure, under the responsibility of the Municipal Civil House, which will integrate approximately 18 city agencies.
The policy covers actions in several areas, including health, education, social assistance, housing, food, mobility and the right to the city. The proposal is to cross-reference data from different sectors to identify children who are not being adequately served by public services.
The experience began being tested in April, in 14 neighborhoods in the Madureira region, in the North Zone of Rio. During the monitoring of 6,627 children and pregnant women, the program managed, in just 30 days, to regularize 619 people who had some pending issue with public services, demonstrating the effectiveness of the data integration strategy.
