Diageo, a global alcoholic beverage manufacturer, is launching an anti-fraud seal that uses artificial intelligence to offer greater consumer safety. The measure is being adopted one year after the methanol crisis in Brazil, when the ingestion of counterfeit beverages caused at least 22 deaths and left nearly 80 people poisoned across five states.
The Diageo Drink Safe Seal is described as pioneering anti-fraud technology, with 99.99% security against counterfeiting. The company states that the seal brings greater consumer safety, allowing verification of product integrity quickly.
According to Paula Lindenberg, president of Diageo in Brazil, the seal is an initiative that offers an additional layer of protection, without replacing the quality and safety controls already adopted in operations. The goal is for consumers to be able to verify that the product has legal origin and is safe before consuming it.
