A motorcyclist using a red Honda Sahara is committing a series of phone robberies in South Zone neighborhoods of Rio, such as Ipanema, Leblon and Copacabana. Two women, aged 71 and 92, died in a head-on collision between two light vehicles on the EN122, between Castro Marim and Monte Francisco, this Monday, September 14. The accident caused the road to be closed in both directions while rescue operations were underway at the scene, which mobilised 15 operatives supported by six vehicles. The alert was given at 15:31.

The Aldeia da Pedralva, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, in the interior of the Algarve, went from an almost abandoned settlement with just nine inhabitants in 2006 to a rural tourist destination with 26 restored houses. The project involved contacting more than 200 owners and heirs to acquire 30 ruined houses, which were restored with traditional materials and converted into accommodation for visitors. The Vila do Bispo City Council participated in the renovation of infrastructure, including plumbing, paving and underground electrical cabling. Currently, the village has a restaurant, café, pool and activities such as mountain bike trails, hiking, surfing and diving, combining the preservation of rural identity with the tourist offering.

More than 110 thousand students without all teachers last week, says FENPROF

More than 110 thousand students were without all their teachers in the week of September 7 to 11, according to a FENPROF survey of 240 school clusters. The number of teacher positions increased by 6% and teaching hours by 7% compared to the previous year, with Lisbon, Setúbal, Faro, Leiria, and Porto as the most affected districts. The federation warns that the recruitment pool was not reinforced and that only in September and October there will be 1,102 teachers retiring. In primary and secondary education, there are also hundreds of students without an assigned school, such as the 744 students in Sintra and 550 in Lisbon. FENPROF criticizes the education ministry for not having prepared the school network in a timely manner.
