A collision between a light vehicle and a parked truck on the roadside left one dead and one seriously injured in Poiares, on Municipal Road 621 (EM621), which connects Freixo de Espada à Cinta to Poiares. The accident occurred around 08:15 and resulted in the death of an 83-year-old woman, whose death was declared at the scene despite the efforts of rescue teams.
The son of the deceased victim, who was driving the light vehicle, suffered serious injuries as a result of the impact. The man was transported by ground to Macedo de Cavaleiros Hospital, in the Bragança district.
Thirty operatives from the fire brigades of Freixo de Espada à Cinta and Torre de Moncorvo were present at the scene, along with GNR officers with seven vehicles. The National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEM) mobilized an air ambulance, which was stationed in Macedo de Cavaleiros.
The commander of the Freixo de Espada à Cinta fire brigade, Vitor Rentes, confirmed the details of the accident to the Portuguese News Agency, referring to the son of the deceased victim as the driver of the light vehicle involved in the collision.
