The process was highlighted at the 11th ordinary session of the CMJ – Municipal Youth Council of Setúbal, held on September 10, in the Session Hall of the Town Hall, with the participation of the Vice Mayor, Maria do Carmo Tiago, and 14 councilors representing the entities that make up this advisory body. During the meeting, proposals and ideas were presented for deepening and discussion within the scope of the Municipal Strategic Youth Plan, with councilors being challenged to actively participate in the public consultation period. The meeting also allowed for a review of the activity developed by the Youth Office of the Setúbal Municipal Council in the first half of 2026 and to present the main lines of intervention planned until the end of the year. Youth participation, culture, training, mental health, associativism, and climate action are among the priority areas of work to be developed in the coming months.
The session was also marked by the election of Hugo Machado dos Santos, representative of Socialist Youth on the CMJ, as the representative of the Municipal Youth Council on the Municipal Education Council. This choice ensures the participation of the representative body of young people on this municipal council and reinforces the articulation between youth policies and the educational community of the municipality. The councilors also analyzed other topics related to the civic participation of young people, including the Metropolitan Youth Council of Lisbon, and defined the dates of the next ordinary meetings of the CMJ. The 11th session highlighted the participation of youth representatives in the presentation and discussion of proposals and the role of the Municipal Youth Council as a space for dialogue and contribution to the definition of public policies aimed at young people in the municipality.
