More than 110 thousand students without all teachers last week, says FENPROF

More than 110 thousand students were without all their teachers in the week of September 7 to 11, according to a FENPROF survey of 240 school clusters. The number of teacher positions increased by 6% and teaching hours by 7% compared to the previous year, with Lisbon, Setúbal, Faro, Leiria, and Porto as the most affected districts. The federation warns that the recruitment pool was not reinforced and that only in September and October there will be 1,102 teachers retiring. In primary and secondary education, there are also hundreds of students without an assigned school, such as the 744 students in Sintra and 550 in Lisbon. FENPROF criticizes the education ministry for not having prepared the school network in a timely manner.
