Assembly prepares return to plenary sessions

dnoticias.pt14 September 2026 at 19:26

The Standing Committee and the Conference of Representatives of the Parties of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira met today to prepare the start of the II Legislative Session of the XV Legislature. The meeting served to coordinate the return of plenary work after the recess period.

At the Standing Committee meeting, it was confirmed that plenary work will resume on September 22. This date was agreed upon by the parties represented in the assembly.

The agreement between the parties contrasts with what is provided for in the Political-Administrative Statute and the Rules of Procedure of the Legislative Assembly, which establish that plenary sessions take place between October 1 and July 31.

Why this matters

Readers in Madeira are affected because the legislative plenary sessions, which deliberate on regional laws, resume earlier than usual. The agreement between parties to bring forward the resumption of work may indicate regional political priorities that require rapid approval, altering the planned legislative calendar.
