Alentejo maintains yellow warning due to high temperatures

Rádio Campanário14 September 2026 at 08:53

Fifteen districts in mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago are under yellow warning due to the forecast of continued hot weather, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). The districts covered are Viseu, Évora, Porto, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga, which will be under warning until 18:00 today. Madeira also maintains a yellow warning until 18:00 on Tuesday.

The yellow warning is the least severe of a three-level scale and is issued whenever there is a situation of risk for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation.

IPMA forecasts for today on the mainland continued hot weather with mostly clear skies, moderate northwest wind during the afternoon, a slight rise in minimum temperature and a slight drop in maximum temperature on the west coast.

Minimum temperatures will range from 15 degrees Celsius in Braga and Bragança to 26 degrees in Portalegre, while maximum temperatures are expected to vary between 28 degrees in Aveiro and Viana do Castelo and 38 degrees in Évora and Santarém.

Why this matters

Readers in the region should be aware of the moderate risk associated with hot weather, which can affect outdoor activities and vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children. The yellow warning indicates that certain activities dependent on weather conditions may face risks, requiring appropriate precautions during this period of intense heat.
